Software

Vendor Product Description Price
NVIDIA® NVIDIA® 3DTV Play™
Enables connecting an NVIDIA® GeForce® GPU-powered PC or notebook to an HDMI 1.4 3D TV for the ultimate, high-definition, big-screen 3D entertainment experience.
$39.99 (NVIDIA)
3dtv.at MVC to AVI Converter
Converts MPEG Transport Stream files (*.mts, *.ssif) and MP4 files (*.mp4) that use the H.264 MVC codec to two AVI files. It creates one AVI file for the left view and one for the right view. MVC has been adopted for 3D Blu-ray disks and is the recording format of the latest generation of 3D camcorders.
49 Euro (commercial license, no educational one)
3dtv.at Stereoscopic Player
A versatile 3D movie player. It allows you to play stereoscopic videos and DVDs (external decoder required) and also allows you to watch live video from a capture device. Since it is based on DirectShow, it can handle almost any media format, for example AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF and MOV. Videos can be coded in several different stereoscopic formats.
39 Euro (Private Edition)
Martin Lambers Bino 3D Video Player
An open source player that plays stereoscopic 3D videos, which have separate views for the left and right eye and thus allow depth perception through stereopsis.

Supported input formats (modern formats can be autodetected):

  • Monoscopic (2D) video
  • Left and right view in separate video streams and/or files
  • Left and right view side by side (optionally with half width)
  • Left and right view on top of each other (optionally with half height)
  • Left and right view in alternating rows

Supported output formats:

  • Anaglyph glasses (red/cyan, green/magenta, amber/blue). This works with every display.
  • Left and right view side by side (used by some 3D displays)
  • Left and right view on top of each other (used by some 3D displays)
  • Left and right view in alternating rows or columns (used by some 3D displays)
  • OpenGL quad-buffered stereo (only available with some graphics cards)

Microsoft XBOX 360 Kinect
An attachment for the XBOX 360 that combines four microphones, a standard RGB camera, a depth camera, and a motorized tilt. This would enable us to capture our own 3D videos. However, it should be noted that 3 or 4 of units are required to capture a video from multiple viewpoints. The problem is, the depth sensors may interfere with each other if operated simultaneously. So, even though one unit will work ok. To enable a true 3D reconstruction of the scene, a number of these devices need to operated synchronously.
